SERRO SCOTTY CAMPER ENTHUSIASTS
ENTHUSIASTS OF THE MONTH OF AUG.

My name is Ken Scott and I live in upstate NY, in "The Only Stephentown on the Face of the
Earth", or so the sign says. I own 2 Scotty campers, a 59 13 footer named "The Old Huntin'
Dog" and a 66 15 foot Highlander, affectionately named the "Flylander". The 13 footer was a
basket case when I got it. My friend was using it to store garden tools, essentially a shed. I was
after him for years for him to sell it to me. I love the Adirondack Mts of northern NY and was
looking for a small camper to camp and hunt out of. I was getting tired of staying at friends
camps, and the memberships to the hunting clubs were getting very expensive. I am single, so
this was a perfect one person camper - the answer. One day, he called me up and told me to
get the thing out of there. For free. It barely made it home before falling apart. Disappointed,
but undaunted, I ripped it apart and started rebuilding it. I never took on a project like this
before, but it was a chance for me to prove to myself just what I was capable of, and what I
was not. Many, many mistakes made it to the burning barrel, but the time and expense of lost
material were well worth it so far. It is still not completed, but advancing ever so slowly but
surely. The end of the rebuild is now in sight.
There were no readable numbers, emblems, etc so I could identify it. I looked and looked and
looked on the internet trying to find a picture of this thing so I could find out what it was, not
that it was important, I just would have liked to know. One day, I stumbled upon the Serro
Scotty Camper Enthusiasts Yahoo Club, run by ScottyAl. Up in the corner there was a small
picture of Alan's camper. Well, there it was. Now I knew I had a Scotty. There was only 75 or
so members at the time, but I joined the Club anyway and was immediately introduced to some
of the most friendly, informative, excellent people that I never met. They made me feel like part
of a family, and that has continued to this day. The only possibility of identification was an old
Pa. license plate. I sent 15 bucks and the plate number to Pa. Motor Vehicles, and I got the
information of the last registrant, and - the all important vin #. As it turns out, this camper used
to belong to my 8th grade English teacher, Mr Woods. Very cool. I liked Mr Woods. The
Flylander was givin away as a door prize by Scottyland at one of the National Rallys. But
before being raffled off, we used it for the "Rodeo". During that competition, it was givin its
name. They do get off the ground. It was won by Rick and Sally Hoffman. The Flylander then
went to Bob Chestnut, who then sold it to me. It sits in my yard, tarped and waiting for me to
finish the 13 footer. Its probobly upset that its taking me so long. During my time as a
member of the SSCE, I have got to meet many different people, the best people, from all over
the USA. Each and every campout is a great, fun experience, rain or shine. Joining the SSCE
was one of the best decisions I ever made. As a wise man once said - "Its all about the
camping."
