| I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Sue, oka Butterkup. (I been called that for over 53 years by my other half, Stan.) Our first camper was an Apache pop-up. When our crank broke in the lower Florida Keys and Stan had to travel about 100 miles to have it repaired, I think that was the end of our Apache adventures. :) It was around 1968-69, we bought a brand new Serro Scotty. I do know that in the summer of 1970, we took our Scotty from Michigan to California via Rt 66. We ended up camping on a bluff overlooking the ocean on Camp Pendleton. Back to Michigan, and still had time left of the summer (We both taught school) We took our Scotty down the Gulf side of Florida to the Florida Keys and then it was time to go back home. Time for the real world. lol This was in 1970. In 1971, we decided to move to Florida. We bought a house, Stan found a job teaching and I opened up a nursery school/kindergarten. No real time for camping. We decided to sell our Scotty. Time passes. We have camped by tent, van, motor home, van, and then we bought a truck pop-up! I hated it. I couldn't climb up on it, the door was too short and I couldn't sleep on the little bed. We joined a Florida Pop-up group and met a young man who wanted to sell his 1974 Scotty. And we wanted to sell our truck camper. We sold our pop up and bought his Scotty. Time passes again. We camped all over Florida in our wonderful little Scotty. In 2004 Hurricane Charley took our house. And never touched our Scotty, sitting right next to the house. Enough of Florida, Stan and I and the Scotty moved to the mountains of N. Georgia. Young Harris, Ga. Not sure if we will be camping any longer. A motel and a credit card are sounding better all the time. But, our Scotty is set up in the back yard and we have built a fire pit and I love dutch oven cooking so.....Who knows? |
