If you don't happen to have any Hormel Pre Cook Bacon around, PEPPERONI works just as well, or
leftover sausage or leftover sloppy joe mix (THANKS ACE FOR THAT DELICIOUS NUMBER) can modify
this to fit what you find in the cupboard.... ...
Made me remember a campfire dinner with the AMERICAN Youth Hostels group in the 1960s -- NOW HOW DID WE DO THAT?
CAMPFIRE STEW
Start with a foot square piece of aluminum foil on the picnic table. Add -- 1/2 pound of ground beef a potato maybe two if small ones 3 or 4 carrots 3 or 4 pieces of celery half of a 3 inch onion Lawry's Seasoning Salt (optional) or BEEF BASE if you have it Fold up the aluminum foil to make a leakproof container, may need to double or triple wrap the package in foil........ Put on the hot charcoal for 20 minutes (did I get that right)? Peel it open and dinner is ready complete with a serving dish
Now it appears to me that most of these recipes could work in winter just as well as in summer. Your gas grill is sitting there just begging to be used, so why not cook something on it even if there is a foot of snow. And for those who like charcoal cooking -- charcoal is sold year around!
